Our research focus
Chronic exposure to toxins such as cigarette smoke causes structural changes in the airway epithelium.
This process involves the transition of a healthy, ciliated, mucus-producing epithelium into a metaplastic,
squamous phenotype. To better understand this process, we aim to:
• Expose in vitro airway models to cigarette smoke extract
• Analyze the effects on both the cellular and molecular level
• Investigate strategies to prevent or reverse these changes
We are looking for motivated students with a background in
✔ Biology
✔ Biotechnology
✔ or related fields
What we offer
• Interdisciplinary biology-engineering research environment
• Hands-on work with complex in vitro models
• Application-oriented research with clinical relevance
• Close supervision and academic mentoring
